Chair for System Security
The chair for system security, since 2024 led by Prof. Dr. Katharina Kohls, focuses on mobile network security and privacy. We are part of the cluster of excellence Cyber Security in the Age of Large-Scale Adversaries (CASA) and the Horst Goertz Institute for IT Security (HGI).
There are two main building blocks that shape the research in our group. On the scientific side, we ware interested in the security and privacy of large distributed communication networks like 5G. We analyze the implementations of network components, point out security flaws in real-world systems, and evaluate the privacy and anonymity capabilities of systems. On the more practical side, we closely collaborate with Radix Security, a young startup from Bochum that specializes in improving the security of mobile network generations. It was co-found in 2022 by David Rupprecht and Katharina Kohls.
