chair for Security and Trustworthiness of Online Information

Our group works at the intersection of security, privacy and data science. We study how manipulation shapes what information users see online and how it can be detected, understood, and mitigated. We explore how malicious actors currently exploit platform mechanisms, often at scale and with real societal consequences, and we design novel attacks on systems in order to inform stronger defences. The aim of is to restore trust in information by exposing manipulation and developing protective tools that prevent it, even in the absence of platform cooperation.

BACHELOR’S and MASTER’S THESeS

We’re currently offering thesis topics on how online information (e.g. on social media) can be manipulated.
