Phase 1: Start of the doctorate
The doctorate begins with the search for a suitable supervisor. When your search was successful, apply for acceptance as a doctoral candidate in order to start the further process. For this purpose, you will use the forms listed below and the corresponding attachments and fill them out together with your supervisors, if applicable.

The application for acceptance as a doctoral candidate is reviewed by the Doctoral Board of the faculty and must be submitted in full at least 14 days before the doctoral board meeting.
Procedure
Please send the complete application for acceptance as a doctoral candidate as well as the required documents, ensuring the correct naming of the files, exclusively by e-mail to informatik-promotion@rub.de.
After you have received your letter of acceptance as a doctoral candidate, you must enrol as a doctoral student at the RUB Registrar’s Office. You can enrol online. You can find all the necessary information on the relevant page of the Registrar’s Office. The Welcome Center offers additional support for international candidates.
Please then submit your certificate of enrollment to the Dean’s Office. To do this, save the file under Lastname_Immatrikulation.pdf and send it by e-mail to informatik-promotion@rub.de.
