Women’s Breakfast
On October 31st, the Equal Opportunities Team hosted its very first networking event. The Women’s breakfast drew around 45 attendees across all status group and provided a convenient opportunity for women* within the faculty to get to know each other, network, share experiences and engage in lively discussions about enhancing equality in our faculty.
The event kicked off with a warm welcome and introduction by the Equal Opportunities Team, followed by a rich and diverse breakfast. Freshly energized the attendees went into various open discussion rounds, where they could learn more about the tasks of the Equal Opportunities Team and how to get involved with their work. Women* interested in resources and infrastructure the university offers regarding being a family-friendly workplace had the chance to see the upcoming second parent-child-room of the faculty and share ideas for the furnishings. A third discussion round elaborated on the challenges female students and researchers face while studying and working in a male-dominated field, e.g. on strategies to overcome different communication styles between genders.
„Wir sind sehr zufrieden mit dem Erfolg unseres ersten Women’s Breakfast und wie gut es von Mitgliedern aller Statusgruppen angenommen wurde“, fasst Veelasha Moonsamy, Vertreterin der Professorinnen im Gleichstellungsteam, zusammen. “Die Veranstaltung ermöglichte es uns, unsere Arbeit an der Fakultät für Informatik vorzustellen. Vor allem aber haben wir festgestellt, dass solche Zusammenkünfte wichtige und entscheidende Gelegenheiten zum Networking bieten, und wir sind motiviert, in Zukunft mehr solcher Veranstaltungen zu organisieren.“
