Illness during exams

General information

In case of illness, restoring your health is more important than the exam. Only take part in examinations if you feel able to do so in terms of your health. Please note that an illness leading to an inability to take an examination is only given if it is not a case of examination anxiety or a permanent condition (chronic, irreversible illnesses). If the impairment is not temporary, compensation for a disadvantage may be possible. In this case, please contact the staff of the examination office in advance.

Stopping an exam

When you start an examination, you declare that you feel healthy enough to take your examination – even without being explicitly asked. If you start an examination ill and have to stop it in the course of the examination, you cannot claim your illness afterwards by submitting a medical certificate.

If you still wish to discontinue the examination, the following procedure is mandatory:

You explicitly inform the examination supervisor that you have to break off the examination for health reasons. Consult a doctor immediately (not the next day) after the aborted examination.

A simple medical certificate will not be accepted in this case. In this particular case, submit a written request for withdrawal from the examination to the Examination Office within 3 calendar days of the examination, explaining the facts of the case. The application must be accompanied by a medical certificate which, in addition to stating that you were medically fit to take the exam at the beginning of the exam and the date of the medical examination, including the exact time, certifies that the inability to take the exam occurred acutely and unexpectedly during the exam.

The chair of the examination board will ultimately decide on the application.
