Do you deal with aspects of IT security in your everyday work? Do you have a Bachelor’s degree and want to acquire in-depth and scientifically sound knowledge of IT security at Master’s level while working? This is where the six-semester distance learning course “Applied IT Security” (M.Sc.) comes in, offered by the Ruhr University Bochum in cooperation with isits AG. The organizational support is provided by the student office of isits AG.
The part-time master’s program places great emphasis on the systematic teaching of methodological and analytical competencies and their applicability in solving practical, real-world problems. In doing so, the program benefits from its affiliation with the Horst Görtz Institute for IT Security (HGI) as well as from its excellent regional, national, and international networks within both academic and non-academic environments.
The master’s program builds upon a six-semester bachelor’s degree with at least 180 CP in electrical engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, business informatics, industrial engineering, or a comparable course of study. The master’s program is divided into a compulsory section (70 CP) that deepens the fundamentals of IT security at the master’s level, and an elective section (25 CP) that allows for individual specialization and practical expansion of knowledge. The program concludes with the academic master’s thesis (25 CP). The standard duration of study of six semesters can be individually shortened or extended—the modular structure of the distance learning program helps you with this. You learn flexibly with individualized time management alongside your job. You can start the distance learning program in either the summer or winter semester.
Upon successful completion of the distance learning program, Ruhr University will award you the academic degree of “Master of Science.”
For interested individuals without a prior degree, there is the opportunity to complete the academic distance learning program with the certificate “Certified Applied IT Security Professional” (CAISP). The content is identical to that of the master’s program; only the master’s thesis is omitted.
