Final thesis as the last required examination
If the final thesis is the last examination required for your degree, the assessments of both examiners have been received by the Examinations Office and there are no further open registrations in FlexNow, you will receive an e-mail from the Examinations Office with the application for the issue of a certificate and your certificate will go into production.
Since no further examination registrations are possible in the degree program after the certificate has been printed, please let us know at the latest when you submit your thesis if you are planning further registrations for justified reasons (e.g. improvements to examinations in accordance with the PO).
Other module as last required exam
If your last outstanding examination is not the final thesis, but a written examination, an oral examination, an internship, etc. or another module, please contact the Examinations Office proactively after entering the grade in order to receive the application for a certificate. Please note that no further examination registrations are possible in the degree program after the certificate has been printed.
Preparation of the certificate
Your certificate will be produced upon receipt of your application. The preparation of the certificate can take 3-4 weeks, as the documents have to be signed by various functionaries. After completion, you can either collect your certificate in person during the office hours of the Examinations Office (we will inform you by e-mail) or have it sent to you by post. To do this, select the appropriate variant on the application. Collection is also possible with a corresponding power of attorney.
Preliminary certificate
If you require a certificate of completion in advance (“preliminary certificate”), you can apply for this if all examination results required for graduation have been entered in FlexNow, there are no additional open examination procedures and at least a minimum certificate from your examiners is submitted instead of the assessments for the final thesis. The minimum certificate can only be issued once you have submitted your thesis and given the corresponding presentation or colloquium.
As part of the application process for our Master’s degree programs, you must upload your current transcript of records to the RUB applicant portal along with other documents. In the description, all applicants are required to submit a transcript of records signed and stamped by the examination office. However, students of our faculty use the examinable data sheet from FlexNow instead, which replaces the version from the Examinations Office. A version signed and stamped by the Examination Office is not required.
If you have finally been admitted to one of our Master’s degree programs, please make sure that you complete your Bachelor’s degree at the end of the semester and not in the semester in which you start your Master’s degree program to ensure a smooth transfer process. The deadline for the completion date of your Bachelor’s degree is 30.09. or 31.03. of a semester. This means that by the deadline, you must have submitted your thesis and given the corresponding presentation or colloquium or passed another examination that is the last one required for your Bachelor’s degree. As a rule, it is not an insurmountable problem if the certificate cannot be issued until after the cut-off date due to outstanding evaluation procedures. If you are unable to meet the deadline for re-registration as a result, please contact our Student Advisory Service.
You can find everything you need to know about applying for and enrolling on one of our advanced Master’s degree courses under our Master’s degree courses. Please also contact our Student Advisory Service if you have any questions about your application.
Once a year (usually in early summer), the faculty is pleased to be able to bid farewell to its graduates at the Academic Celebration in a cheerful atmosphere. The graduates of 2 semesters are taken into account. Registration is required for participation; the registration portal for this is usually activated in April. Dates and further information on the celebration can be found at https://informatik.rub.de/akademische-jahresfeier/
Students must be enrolled at the time of an examination. If you have completed your examinations, including the submission of your thesis and the associated presentation or colloquium, by the end of the semester and you do not take up any further studies at RUB following this degree course, you do not need to re-register for the next semester. However, if the submission of the thesis, the date of the presentation or colloquium or another examination date falls in the next semester, you must re-register. Pending evaluations do not require any feedback. So if you have completed all examinations and are just waiting for an examination result, you can exmatriculate.
Students are not automatically de-registered when they complete their studies or receive their certificate. Here you have to take action yourself. The contact and responsible body for de-registration is not the Examinations Office, but the Registrar’s Office. Please contact our colleagues with any questions you may have about exmatriculation.
You can find an application for de-registration and further information at https://studium.ruhr-uni-bochum.de/de/exmatrikulation. Among other things, criteria for a possible (pro rata) reimbursement of the social contribution are described there. This may be relevant for you if you have re-registered conditionally for the next semester but were able to successfully complete your studies before the start of the next semester.
You will also no longer have access to your FlexNow account when you exmatriculate. We therefore strongly recommend that you save at least one verifiable version of your service overview before taking the final step.
You can use your RUB e-mail as long as you are enrolled. Information on further use after leaving RUB can be found on the IT Services website, e.g. at https://www.it-services.ruhr-uni-bochum.de/ias/mailkonzept.html
