Recognition of examination results/credits
Below you will find a guide for the common recognition practice of examination or study credits, valid for all programs of our faculty.
Ideally, you should submit the application before the exam registration period begins (05/31 or 11/30) to complete the recognition process before the exam period.
The application for recognition requires enrollment in the degree program in which the achievement is to be recognized. Recognition related to a module in which the examination procedure specified in the examination regulations has already been started / completed is excluded.
The subject matter within the scope of the recognition must be submitted at the beginning of the application process in either German or English, if necessary as a certified translation.
With all questions about the recognition please contact our Student Advisory Service.
1. Step (Preparing the required documents)
As a first step, please provide the following documents from your former studies, complete and with the appropriate information:
- a) Your degree certificate(s) or, alternatively, certificates of achievement officially issued by your examination office or digitally verifiable
- b)An official grading scale with assignment of the respective grades
- c)An official document with the scope (ECTS, LP, SWS, …) and the content of the courses (e.g. a module description). Alternatively, you can also send us a link to the respective module descriptions
If the above documents are not available in the English or German language in the original, we require an officially certified translation.
2. Step (Submit application for recognition)
Send the above listed documents filled out completely and the filled out application for recognition directly to the Examination Office.
Counseling by the Student Advisory Service is only required in individual cases upon request by the Examination Office.
3. Step (Announcement of the result)
If your request has been approved, the recognized achievement will then be entered in FlexNow and you will receive an e-mail from FlexNow. You can then log into your account to view the recognition. The recognition will be marked on your transcript of records and on your certificate.
In the event that your application is rejected, you will receive a corresponding notice by mail.

If you have completed a programming activity of at least 90 hours in the context of a working student activity, an assistant activity or an industrial internship, this can be recognized on application as a programming internship or as a specialization internship. The chairperson of the Examination Committee or the deputy will decide whether an activity is suitable for recognition. The recognition of an activity in the company of a family member is of course excluded.
- Guide
1. Ideally, you should already clarify with the Student Advisor whether the tasks to be performed and the number of hours are sufficient for recognition before taking up the activity.
2. After you have completed the activity amounting to at least 90 h, fill out the application form.It is important that you describe the tasks performed as precisely as possible. If the text field is not sufficient, please attach further explanations to the application. These must also bear the signature of the company or the chair.
3. The completed application must be co-signed by the company / chair holder, confirming the accuracy of the information. In addition, an email address must be entered for any queries.
4. The application, together with a copy of the employment contract or internship contract, must be submitted by mail (studienberatung-ai@rub.de) to the Student Advisor who conducts the initial review. In case of a positive vote, the application will be forwarded to the chairperson of the Examination Committee or the deputy for a decision.
5. In the case of a positive decision, the performance will be entered in Flexnow by the Examination Office. In the case of a rejection, you will receive a corresponding notice by mail with information on how to appeal.
