Registration
To attend an exam, it is absolutely mandatory to register for it within the specified deadlines. You cannot attend an exam without prior registration.
For the detailed registration periods for every exam (including seminars and practical courses) please refer to the exam schedule.
FlexNow
To register an exam (written, oral, continuous assignments, seminars, practical courses, …), we exclusively use the system FlexNow. Only in rare cases, registration requires a different or additional process (see seminars and practical courses).
You will receive confirmation for every successful registration to your RUB e-mail account. For more information, see the FlexNow support website.
The exams office will only register an exam for you if you can prove technical difficulties which made a registration impossible. In this case, please write us an e-mail within the deadlines from your own RUB mail account stating your name, matriculation no. and the exam in question including the credited module (mandatory course, elective course, etc.) and a screenshot of the error message to informatik-pruefungsamt@rub.de zu senden. E-mails which arrive after the deadlines have ended will not be considered.
Registering another exam date of the same exam after deregistering an exam is only possible after 9:00 on the following day due to technical reasons.
Written exams
For nearly all modules that conclude with a written exam, two exam dates are scheduled for the end of the semester (first exam and resit exam). Exceptions may include exams for block courses.
Exam dates for courses of other faculties may not follow the same scheduling, i.e. resit exams may take place at another time. It is your responsibility to find out about these dates on your own.
The registration deadlines depend on whether the exam takes place in the first or second exam period. The specific deadlines can be found in our exam schedule. It is not possible to be simultaneously registered for both exam dates.
Oral exams are registered within the specified deadlines in our exam schedule. After the official registration in FlexNow, please contact your examiners and arrange an individual appointment for the exam, it should take place in the time between terms. Should you require a second appointment, because you failed or could not attend the first exam, please contact the exams office, stating the exam in question that should be reregistered. Such a resit oral exam must be taken no later than one semester after the original exam.
All exams with continuous assignments during the semester that constitute the exam in question (= “semesterbegleitend”) must be registered via FlexNow during the first four weeks in the beginning of the semester. For detailed periods, see exam schedule.
For seminare and practical courses, a two-step registration process is necessary. The faculty has set up an allocation system for spots in seminars and practical courses, more information can be found in the course catalogue and module handbook. In addition to allocation of a spot, it is mandatory to register the course on FlexNow.
If you miss one of these registration steps, it may lead to failure of the course in question.
In rare cases, combination exams are offered which combine a written or oral exam with a continuous assignment during the semester. These combination exams are registered as one module exam in the beginning of the semester. Registration and deregistration deadlines can be found in the exam schedule, registration usually ends after the first four weeks of the semester. If you take a combination exam, you choose at the beginning of the course which exam date you wish to attend.
After the registration period has ended, a one-time change from the first exam to the resit exam or vice versa is allowed, but no later than 14 days before the first exam date and done via the exams office. Please send an e-mail to the exams office from your RUB mail account no later than 14 days before the first exam date, regardless of whether you want to switch from the 1st to the 2nd exam date or vice versa.
Should you fail the first exam, registration of the resit exam date can only be done by the exams office, registration for the resit exam ends 10 days before its date. In this case, send the exams office a mail from your own RUB mail account stating all necessary details.
