Examination regulations

There are currently no admission restrictions for the Master’s in AI. The course can be started in both the summer and winter semesters.

For admission to the Master’s degree program in Applied Computer Science, you must have a Bachelor’s degree of at least 6 semesters in Applied Computer Science or an equivalent discipline. The Bachelor’s degree submitted must have at least 60 CP from the field of computer science and at least 18 CP from the field of mathematics. As many modules in the Master’s degree program in AI are taught in English, you must have a solid command of English. Therefore, proof of English proficiency at B2 level (GeR) must be provided with the application. Proof can be provided, for example, via the German Abitur certificate (English at least sufficient in the entire upper secondary school) or a recognized language certificate (TOEFL, IELTS,…).

International students can find everything they need to know about the application process on the Admissions Office website. For this applicant group, the application must be submitted online via the RUB applicant portal. If you are applying for a place in the winter semester, the application deadline is July 15. You must have applied for a place in the summer semester by January 15 at the latest. In addition to English language skills, this applicant group must also demonstrate a sound knowledge of German.

All applicants with a German Bachelor’s degree or German nationality or a Bachelor’s degree from an EU country or EU nationality must apply via the RUB application portal. Only applications received within the deadline can be considered. The deadlines differ from those for degree programs with NC:

The application period is usually from the beginning of June to October 1st for a winter semester or from the beginning of December to April 1st for a summer semester. Missing documents can also be submitted within one week.

If your Bachelor’s certificate is not available by the application deadline, you can also apply on the basis of a transcript of records. The proof must meet the following requirements:

  1. Proof of at least 150 CP of 180 CP or 180 CP of 210 CP
  2. Recorded average grade
  3. Stamped and signed by the responsible examination office (or verifiable electronic form)

Please note that in this case you must also have your degree certificate by the time of enrollment!

Don’t forget to upload proof of your English language skills, as this is the only way to ensure that your application documents are complete.

According to the examination regulations, we may impose conditions that you must fulfill in the first three semesters of the Master’s degree program in order to complete any missing requirements. Until the conditions are met, the approval is only provisional.

After checking your application documents, you will be informed whether we can admit you to the degree program. If this is the case, you must attend the obligatory counseling interview with the Student Advisory Service before enrolling. All admitted applicants will be invited by e-mail to the consultation, which will be offered in the form of an information event. Here you can find out everything you need to know about the study program and ask any questions you may have.

With the certificate of the obligatory counseling interview and the Bachelor’s certificate, you can enroll via online enrollment, usually by April 30. or 31.10. register or transfer and then upload the documents to the Admissions information portal. You can also find more information here.
