Further Options for Exchange Semesters

In addition to an exchange through our faculty’s programs or the RUB’s university-wide exchange programs, you can also organize a semester or year abroad yourself as a so-called freemover. Other faculties at the RUB also have partnerships that may be of interest to you.

Freemover

In case none of the faculty’s or RUB’s partner universities appeal to you, you also have the option of organizing your own trip to your desired university. The whole world is open to you. However, you will be responsible for all the organization and research, and additional costs such as tuition fees may apply. You can find helpful tips on the International Office’s website for self-organized study abroad programs. If necessary, you can apply for BAföG funding for your studies abroad. Alternatively, you can apply for scholarships or take a student loan. Please contact us in advance, even if you are organizing your stay abroad yourself, to ensure that your courses there will be recognized later.

Exchange through collaborations of other faculties

The faculties at RUB each have their own (Erasmus) agreements with corresponding faculties at their partner universities. Therefore, the agreements of our faculty are naturally the most suitable for students of Applied Computer Science, Computer Science, and IT Security. Nevertheless, it may be worthwhile to inquire about exchange opportunities at related faculties such as Electrical Engineering and Information Technology (ETIT) or Mathematics. The contact persons there are the respective academic advisors or Erasmus coordinators at the faculties.

Due to the proximity of study programs and the historical development of our faculty, some of the ETIT faculty’s collaborations are particularly suitable for ITS students, e.g.:

  • Czech Technical University (Prague, Czeck Republic)
  • Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) (various cities, Norway)
  • Universidad Rey Juan Carlos (Madrid, Spain)
  • Università degli Studi Cagliari (Cagliari, Italy)
  • Univeristé Catholique de Louvain (Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium)
  • University of Birmingham (Birmingham, England)

Please contact the ETIT academic advisory service if you are interested in spending a semester or year abroad at one of these universities.
