Visiting Scientists

Are you visiting the Faculty of Computer Science as an international guest researcher for a research stay, a conference, or to hold a lecture? We warmly welcome you to our faculty. A visit as a visiting researcher to our faculty can be organized, for example, through a joint research project with our research groups, through one of our faculty’s Erasmus collaborations, or through the RUB Research School.

Planning your visit to the Faculty of Computer Science

Please contact the research group you would like to visit before arriving in Bochum. The staff members of these research groups will discuss most of the organizational details with you. Please also let us know ahead of your visit if you are interested in collaborating on research and/or if you would like to offer a course for our study programs. If you would like to offer a course, please contact our internationalization officer at least six months before your visit via cs-international@rub.de.

  • You can finance your visit to us with your own research or travel funds.
  • The chair you wish to visit can apply for funding through the RUB Research School under certain conditions.
  • You or the chair can apply for external funding, e.g., from the German Academic Exchange Service.
  • If there is an Erasmus agreement for staff mobility between your university and the Faculty of Computer Science at RUB, your visit to us may be partially funded through this agreement. If you are interested, please contact our employee for internationalization via cs-international@rub.de.

In addition to financing your stay at RUB, other organizational issues also play a role, such as finding accommodation in Bochum or applying for a visa. The point of contact at RUB for these matters is the Welcome Center, whose websites provides a good overview of the most important topics.

Your stay at the Faculty of Computer Science and in Bochum

We hope you enjoy your stay at the Faculty of Computer Science at RUB and are able to carry out your research projects. Your academic contact during your stay will be the chair you are visiting. For other matters, the RUB Welcome Center will be happy to assist you. There, you can register as a visiting researcher and participate in online events, for example.

In addition, the Welcome Office Bochum can assist you with any questions or problems you may have. Furthermore, Bochum is located in the center of the Ruhr region, one of the largest metropolitan areas in Europe and Germany’s former coal mining and steel region. You can reach neighboring cities quickly and easily by train and enjoy many other leisure activities there as well – from swimming lakes to world heritage sites, there is a wide variety of things to do. An overview can be found, for example, on the Ruhr Tourism websites.
