Stays Abroad for Scientists of the Faculty of Computer Science

As a professor or research assistant at the Faculty of Computer Science, you probably have a strong international and local network and have access to funds for research, business trips, and other expenses that are important for international networking. Nevertheless, it may happen that you or your staff do not always have the right funding available or need support in addition to financial assistance in planning an international conference or a visit by a guest researcher. We have compiled some information and contact points for you here – if you have any questions, please feel free to contact cs-international@rub.de.

Support by RUB

Within RUB, there are two main points of contact that support scientists with international matters: RUB Research School, which primarily looks after doctoral students and young postdocs, and the Welcome Center of the International Office. In addition, most Erasmus agreements at our faculty also include staff mobility. These points of contact can provide you with support on the following topics, among others:

  • Participation in international conferences (for doctoral candidates)
  • Funding for research stays abroad (for doctoral candidates)
  • Starting grant for the first postdoc abroad
  • Funding for the organization of an international conference or international event at RUB (for doctoral candidates)
  • Invitation of international guest researchers to support your own research project (for doctoral candidates)
  • Invitation of international doctoral candidates to RUB
  • Most Erasmus+ agreements, which you are probably familiar with from student exchanges, also include the option of traveling to a partner university as an employee or welcoming employees to RUB. These are usually short stays of five days to two weeks. If you have any questions about this option, please contact cs-international@rub.de.
  • In addition to the Erasmus+ agreements of the Faculty of Computer Science, there are central funding programs within the framework of Erasmus+ that enable RUB employees to pursue further training abroad. Stays abroad lasting between two days and two months are generally eligible for funding. Information on this funding line can be found on the International Office websites.

Support Services beyond RUB

Most major funding agencies for research projects also offer funding for international projects. This applies, for example, to the DFG and the BMBF. The websites of the International Office at RUB provide a good overview of international funding providers within the EU and outside the EU. And, of course, the German Academic Exchange Service also provides funding.
