Traditionally, the Faculty of Computer Science cordially invites all interested parties to its annual Computer Science Day, which this year will take place on February 11, 2026. The networking event offers an afternoon full of insights into current research topics in computer science and is aimed at all RUB members, faculty members, and partner companies.

The highlights of this year’s Computer Science Day are the inaugural lectures by Rebekah Overdorf, titled “Detection and Analysis of Harmful Activities on Online Platforms,” and Tim A. Majchrzak, titled “Computing, Technology and Society: Integrated Digitalization Research Driven by Computer Science.”

Rebekah Overdorf has been Professor of Security and Trustworthiness of Online Information at the Faculty of Computer Science since March 2025. She is also a member of the CASA Cluster of Excellence and the Research Center Trustworthy Data Science and Security at the University Alliance Ruhr. Rebekah Overdorf’s research focuses on the security and privacy of people on the internet, especially on social media.

Tim A. Majchrzak has been taking on a dual role since April 2025: he is Professor of Computing, Technology and Society at the Faculty of Computer Science and, at the same time, Scientific Director at the Center for Advanced Internet Studies (CAIS). Tim Majchrzak’s research investigates technical, organizational, and social aspects of software engineering, with a particular focus on mobile computing, IoT, and edge computing.

After the presentations, Computer Science Day invites participants to a get-together. In a relaxed atmosphere, participants can talk to the speakers and other guests, exchange ideas about common interests, and discover opportunities for future collaboration.

Computer Science Day 2026 thus promises not only the latest scientific insights, but also a wide range of networking opportunities for lively knowledge transfer.
